As a member of the Corporate Accounting team, the Accountant II contributes to an efficient financial reporting team with a focus on consolidation and the mine service segment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Prior to monthly consolidation financial statement close: record consolidating journal entries, per checklist; update supporting consolidation working papers, review in accordance to policy and tie to consolidated financial statements; include supporting consolidation working papers and schedules in consolidated roll-up package; assist with analysis of financial results in explaining comparative results, as required; complete sign-off documents; monitor progress of sign-off documents, following up with team members as necessary; deliver consolidated roll-up package to manager for review upon completion.
  • For the consolidation of annual budgets for the company: identify and evaluate any overall process changes and perform necessary steps to implement where appropriate; prepare, and obtain approval, on overall timeline; execute communication to appropriate parties in relation to timeline and process; monitor and maintain timeline as milestones are completed, communicating when there is risk of not meeting deadlines; source, upload & validate elimination company data; prep files for roll-up reporting, populate, review & issue as outlined in timeline.
  • For the consolidation of quarterly forecasts for the company: identify and evaluate any process changes and perform necessary steps to implement where appropriate; maintain timeline, revising when necessary; execute communication to appropriate parties in relation to timeline and process; populate, review and release templates; ensure data is accurately reflected in consolidated roll-up.
  • On a quarterly basis, prepare supporting schedules for the management discussion and analysis of financial results in accordance to checklist.
  • Prepare and issue routine external reporting in accordance with checklist.
  • In accounting for Fountain Tire Mine Service and its subsidiaries, prior to monthly close: ensure all sub ledger records agree to general ledger; perform cut-off procedures for sales, inventory and expenses; record journal entries, per checklist; update all balance sheet working papers, review in accordance to policy and ensure they tie to general ledger; perform variance analysis on revenues and expenses, review in accordance to policy; and complete sign-off document.
  • For mining annual budget process: identify and evaluate any process changes and perform necessary steps to implement where appropriate; prepare, and obtain approval, on timeline; execute communication to appropriate parties in relation to timeline and process; source, upload & validate data; monitor and maintain timeline as milestones are completed, communicating when there is risk of not meeting deadlines; prepare and issue reporting; ensure data is accurately reflected in consolidated roll-up.
  • For quarterly forecast of mining results: identify and evaluate any process changes and perform necessary steps to implement where appropriate; maintain timeline, ensuring alignment with overall timeline, revising when necessary; execute communication to appropriate parties in relation to timeline and process; populate, review and release templates; ensure data is accurately reflected in consolidated roll-up. 
  • Prepare corporate income tax returns and maintain monthly tax working paper files for Fountain Tire Ltd. and Fountain Tire Mine Service.
  • In accounting for Fountain Tire Real Estate and Fountain Tire Holdings: issue payments on approved invoices; record transactions that have transpired within reporting period; close financial statements and issue reporting on quarterly basis; file tax returns within deadlines set out by Canada Revenue Agency.
  • Assist in design, development and implementation of strong internal control processes to provide timely and accurate financial statements and to ensure assets are adequately safeguarded.
  • Participate in all safety initiatives, as required or assigned, to guarantee safety at Fountain Tire.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

 

  • Working knowledge of financial statement preparation and reporting.
  • Demonstrated professionalism when dealing with financial information. 
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external associates.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills in order to effectively manage multiple priorities and competing demands within tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with an attention to detail in order to research and escalate issues.
  • Demonstrated initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
  • A willingness to learn. 
  • Working knowledge of tax return preparation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other Financial Reporting software (FRX, Target, Forecaster, TaxPrep). 
  • College Diploma with a major in Accounting and 5 to 7 years of related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Completion of an Accounting designation (CMA, CGA or CA).
